FREE BIKE MAINTENANCE CLASSES FOR ADULTS

Please find attached a list of the Basic Bike Maintenance classes that we have planned over the next few weeks

1. Wed 26 May 4-6pm Uni Students/Staff

2. Tue 1 June 10-12am Family

3. Tue 1 June 2-4pm Family

4. Tue 1 June 6-8pm Adult

5. Wed 2 June 9-11am Family

6. Sat 5 June 9-11am Adult

7. Sat 5 June 11.30 -1.30pm Adult

All classes will be held at Re-Cycle, Colchester a maximum of 8 people and will run for 2 hours. Participants will be encouraged to bring their own bikes to the classes. The classes are intended to provide a an introduction to basic bike maintenance and will focus on teaching people to check their bike for basic safety and will teach in particular puncture repair and correct adjustment of brakes. Classes are free to all participants thanks to a grant from Cycle Colchester .

We hope that the classes will appeal to people who have a bicycle but do not have the skills or who cannot afford to have maintenance or repairs carried out. We believe that there are many people to whom this causes a barrier to prevent them from using their bike and enjoying from the many benefits of cycling of which we are all aware.

In the future we may well hold another series of classes targeted at cyclists who wish to add to their basic skills. These would cover more advanced topics such as setting up of gears and stripping and maintenance of wheel hubs etc.

Bookings will be taken by Matt Lawford (who will be providing the training with Richard Evans) on 07889 124001. Both instructors are Cytech qualified.

SAM Learning

Here at the Gilberd school we are always looking for ways to extend our students’ learning. Part of our improvement programme involves the use of SAM Learning, a unique online service that covers all subjects.
